A Note from Katie and Kurt...
Just a reminder that we will not be having Student Ministry Services (The Spark - Sundays @ 9:00 and 10:30a or 4ORTY 2wo - Sundays @ 7:00p) the next two weeks. So on Dec. 28th and Jan. 4th you can take your students with you to "big church," but we won't be doing anything. We will see your students on January 11th for the start of our new series, "ALL IN." We hope that you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! We will not have Student Ministry Services until January 11th, so that you can spend the holidays with your students, and be together as a family! We hope that you will take advantage of this time to be together, make memories and share in the wonder of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Life Group Christmas Party!
Don't let your student miss out on the Life Group Christmas Party! This Wednesday, December 17th from 7-9pm in the Student Zone at Point of Grace! We will have a ton of good food, fun games, festive music and gift exchange! So have them come and hang out with us and bring a wrapped White Elephant gift to participate in the gift exchange. Don't have them spend more that $5 on something (or even better, help them find something in your basement!) Can't wait to celebrate with your student!

Summer Camp - I know right?

FUSE - Fall Getaway is only 1 week away!
There is only one week left until the deadline to sign up for FUSE! Your student does not want to miss this event! Our Fall Getaway is up in Boone, at the YMCA Camp and we bring it all! It's an incredible weekend where students are challenged to grow closer to each other, more in love with God and more passionate about changing their campus. It's an incredible weekend! It's only $120 which includes programing elements, food, lodging, transportation, games, prizes and a t-shirt! There are also optional activities available at a small extra cost. Registration is at 3:30p on Friday, October 3rd at Point of Grace and we leave from camp at 4:00p. We will return at 5:00p on Sunday October 5th. Please be there to pick up you child at that time. A signed parent permission slip is due at the time of registration. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, October 1st! Don't let your student miss out. There is a huge difference in the connectedness of students who go on this trip and those who do not. Set a great trajectory for the year and sign your student up for FUSE!
Also, our band KEY TO THE CITY will be recording a live worship album at FUSE, and your student will want their voice on that!

TWLOHA Tour - October 10th
The TWLOHA Tour will be at Point of Grace on Friday, October 10th from 7-10:30p. Tickets cost $5 in advance or $8 at the door. Between the Trees, Nevertheless, and Dan Evans from NBC's "The Biggest Loser" will be playing, and Renee Yohe will be speaking about her battle with depression, self-image and cutting and how she found healing in Christ from her new book "Purpose for the Pain."
Purpose for the Pain is the inspiring story of a young woman’s battles through addiction, depression and self-mutilation. In heartbreaking detail and poetic outpourings, Renee Yohe (the inspiration behind the non-profit movement, To Write Love On Her Arms) chronicles her journey from self destruction to new life. Over four years of journal entries, she takes readers through her deepest moments of despair to the hope on the other end. Renee’s story is a light of possibility to anyone who feels trapped by darkness.

Oceans of Fun Trip!
Attention Parents of Junior Highers!! Looking for something fun to do the last week before school starts up again? Be sure to have your student join us as we head down to Oceans of Fun in Kansas City! It's Wednesday, August 13th from 8am until 10pm. The cost is $40 and this includes admission to the park, all you can eat BBQ lunch and transportation. Bring extra money for souvenirs and dinner on the way home! High School Camping Trip!
This weekend, the High School Group is heading out for a camping trip at Ledges State Park. The cost is $10 for food and fun. Please bring your own sleeping bag, tent, pillow and toiletries as well as clothes for the trip. We will meet at 12:30 pm in the Student Zone (Theater) at Point of Grace and leave for the campground. We will return to Point of Grace around 2 pm on Monday, August 11th. Also if your parents can drive please let us know. Hope you all can make it to the trip! Day 4 wrap up
Today was incredible! We learned about Gods heart for the world and how we need to live LARGER than ourselves! We got to see the Kenyan Childrens Choir perform this morning and we learned how we can get involved in helping those in need around the world. Then tonight we had 5 students start following Jesus for the first time! We had an amazing party as we watched what God has been doing this week! Then tomorrow we will baptize 14 students in the ocean! Its gas been an amazing week. Thanks for your prayers and all that you did to make it possible!

Day 2 & 3 wrap up
We had an incredible last two days at Big Stuf camp learning how to live we a singular clear broadcast. We learned that God wants is to be honest about who we truelt are because He created is exactly according to his design. He also wants is to live connected in community with other Christ followers. But this requires authenticity and transparency! Please pray for your students as they begin to experience true community by beginning to be honest and real with others. We also encourage you to encourage your student to get in a Life Group in the fall so that the community can continue to flourish!

Big Stuf: Day 1 Update
Well as we wrapped up the first day, we are all very tired and maybe a little sunburned, but it has already been an incredible experience, even though we have only been here for about 8 hours. The opening session totally blew the students away with the amazing set, flashing lights and creative and fun games. The theme this year is "Broadcast" and the whole week we are asking ourselves "What am I broadcasting to the world around me?" It's really going to be amazing! Tonight we heard from Jared Heard and he challenged us to live out loud for God and to look at our life like a puzzle, and truly be honest about whether our life is a bunch of pieces or is it a complete, beautiful picture. Often times we each hold a piece of our life puzzle that we refuse to give God control of. Usually this is the piece that we desire the most; we think that because this thing is so valuable, that we have to hold on to it and have control of it, so that it is taken care of, rather than put that thing in the hands of the One who truly can control and change that one thing, that one thing that we care about the most.
As we go on through this week, your students will be asking themselves, "What am I broadcasting, not just with my words, but with my life?" Please pray for God to move in their hearts and change their lives as they fall deeper in love with Him!

We Made It!
We arrived safetly today at Big Stuf in Panama City Beach and the students are exatatic! Though long, the bus ride went very smoothly and the students had a great time in St. Louis at the City Museum and the Riverfront Park and Arch! We also got to see some fireworks. Big Stuf Details
Can you believe that we leave for Big Stuf in only 4 days!! Here is the information that we covered in the meeting and all the details for what your student needs to bring, and what not to bring, to camp this weekend:
If you have any last minute questions, please feel free to contact us at students@pointofgrace.com, or check out bigstuf.com and we will see you Friday morning at 10:00 am for registration and then it's off to Florida! It's going to be a great week. We are looking forward to it!
Registration begins at 10:00 am this Friday, July 18th, in the Atrium at Point of Grace. Please arrive as soon after 10:00 am as possible as we have almost 100 people to check in. We will be leaving by 11:00 am. A parent or legal guardian must sign in every student going on this trip, and stay for the short Parent Meeting. At registration, you will be giving the Parent packet with information about details at camp, your student's room leader and their cell phone number to contact them in the case of an emergency. You will also have to sign the Big Stuf Release Form. If you do not sign them in and fill out this form, they cannot get on the bus.
We will be stopping on the way down to Florida at the City Museum in St. Louis, MO, and the cost for that is $6. We will also be stopping at Opry Mills Mall in Nashville, TN, on the way home.
Your student will need spending money for this trip. We suggest between $75 and $100 for food on the way down and back (6 meals total) souvenirs while at camp, admission to the City Museum, as well as snacks and food while at camp. Also there are extra optional activities while at camp that cost money such as parasailing, Jetski rentals, Shipwreck Island Water Park and the Movie Theater, which are all options on Tuesday during Free Time. Please send you student with money as we will not be able to cover students who do not have money for food.

iPod, CD player, and other personal media devices (please put your name on them because they are for the bus ride only. They will be collected when we arrive at camp and returned the night before we leave for home)

This Weekend...
This weekend we got to visit some of the more difficult parts of South Africa. We walked some children home to #7 which is a little makeshift village that is near The Pines. There we saw to extreme poverty and despair the many Africans face.
We also visited the Hospital and passed out Beanie Babies to children (all under the age of 13) dying of AIDS, TB or other diseases. It was incredibly heart wrenching to hold babies and talk with 5 and 6 year olds in the hospital who had been in there for months dying with no one coming to visit them. It was a challenging time. Then we went to a children's cemetery where children we buried. To read the grave stones (on those that had them) made us cry seeing some babies not even live for a day. The most morbid part of it all, was that next to the grave sites there were two rows of open graves, totaling about 50 holes, which we were told would be filled by the end of the week, just in and around Thabong alone. As we rode home, very solemn, God had a special treat to lift our spirit's and we got stopped at a Net Ball game by African children flooding the street to see the crazy Americans and take pictures with us.
It was a day of sorrow and joy, hope and distress, but through it all we experienced the love of God for His creation and saw the desperate need that we must meet to help these people!
Week One Review
Hello All! We are so thankful for your prayers and so excited to be a part of what God is doing down here in South Africa! We wrapped up an incredible week of VBS style outreach club for the children that live around the Pines. We had over 60 children on Tuesday when Katie taught on the story of Noah's Ark and how we can trust God's promises to us, and ended the week with over 12 children praying to ask Jesus to come into their lives through the explanation of the gospel through the 5 color bead bracelet. It truly has been an indescribable week so far! Next week we are headed to the Public High School in Thabong, the townshi
p right near Whelkom, to speak to the senior class for a week about American, education, AIDS awareness and prevention and social issues such as gender, race, and basic human rights from God's perspective. Should be a great time! Thanks again for you prayers and please enjoy the pictures....

We Arrived in South Africa!
Well, we all made it safe to Chicago, then to London, and finally to Johannesburg, South Africa. After a long drive we showed up at the Pines with 12 kids in tow! After getting settled we took a tour of the property and got the schedule for the week. So we are settled in and we are having a Bible Club for the kids at the Pines as well as the children that live at the #7 camp down the road. We are excited to be here and even more excited to see what God will do in and through us over then next 2 weeks! Gold Medal Monday! - June 16th
Gold Medal Mondays are just fun activities to generate community and have fun as a group. We hope your student will join us for all three this summer! Move Up Parties!
MOVE UP WEEKEND is coming!
June 1st is the day! Current 5th graders will move up to Junior High and current 8th graders will move up to High School! It's going to be an exciting day! Here are the details for each group:
THE SPARK (Junior High: Current 5th-7th graders)
Have your students show up to their normal room on June 1st, and then the new sixth graders will come over to the Student Zone all together! We will have a very special service to welcome them! After second service, at 12:00 noon, we will have our Move Up Party out on the West Lawn! Your student will not want to miss it! We will have tons of free food, fun games and special prizes! Be sure they bring a swimsuit and a towel and change of clothes, because we will have a Dunk Tank, where they can dunk the Student Ministries Staff, and an Inflatable Water Slide! This party is for new 6th - 8th graders only! Pick up is at 2:00p.
We will also have a brief New 6th Grade Parent Orientation Meeting from 12:15 - 1:00p in the Student Zone (Theater). If you are the Parent of a new 6th grader, please make plans to attend this short meeting so that you can ask any questions that you have, and be up to speed on way for you child to get connected to the Student Ministry this summer!

Be sure they show up at 5pm for your MOVE UP PARTY! We will have free dinner, ice cream, music and fun games! Then at 7:00p we will have our Welcome Service to bring in the new freshman, as well as celebrate the exiting Seniors! Your student will not want to miss it! This party is for new 9th-12th graders and graduating seniors only! The night will end at 9:00p after 4ORTY 2WO.

Because the Student Ministries Team is at the Orange Conference this week, there will not be any 6th grade, Urbandale (7th-8th grade), or High School Life Groups this week. The 7th-8th grade Waukee Life Group WILL meet this Wednesday as usual. All other Life Groups will resume next Wednesday (May 7th) at normal times.

There will be no Student Ministries services this weekend because the Student Ministries staff will be in Atlanta at the ORANGE Conference. Please enjoy this weekend with your student as they celebrate the Live Like You Were Dying series in the Main Auditorium. Also please pray for us as we travel, and that God would bring fresh insights and creativity to us as a team to create even more irresistible environments where students can experience God, connect with others and serve their community. Parent Preview: Exposed! [week.4 makin' up after messin' up]
Well the series is about to wrap up this weekend, and we have a had an amazing response from the students and parents about how helpful this series has been. We are so thankful for what God is doing in the lives of the students as they realize their need for Him and begin to see their sexuality through His eyes. This past week we challenged them to pursue purity at all costs, not just virginity. We explained that God wants us to run from all sexual immorality and that you can be a virgin and not be pure and that you can be pure and not be a virgin.
Here's the notes for this coming weekend (4.20) as we finish up with the fourth week of EXPOSED! We hope that these notes help you prepare for conversations that you are having with your student(s) by giving you the content ahead of time.
EXPOSED! [the naked truth about sex and dating]
week.4 - makin' up after messin' up
This week we will wrap up the series by really focusing on God's forgiveness and the immense power there is in His grace to remove our guilt from past sexual mistakes. We want every student to know, whether they have sexual mistake already in their past or not, that God's forgiveness is big enough to cover all. We want them to understand that while different sins have different physical and emotional consequences, nothing to too big for God. Many students experience immense guilt after a bad sexual decision and often they feel like they are too far for God to reach them. We want them to know that God is not only looking and longing for them, but is actually chasing after them to bring them back to fullness in His forgiveness.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11:
"Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or who practice homosexuality, or are thieves or greedy people, or drunks, or are abusive, or cheat people - none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed, you were made holy, you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of our God."
This verse sounds like bad news are first but it really is the explaining how none of us are clean and that by our own mistakes and sins we miss out on God's best for us. But that God can cleanse us from all of our sins! That if God can forgive our greed or pride (a form of idolatry that we are all guilty of) then he can forgive our sexual sins. because:
In God's family, there are no PERFECT PEOPLE ALLOWED!
In Mark 1:40-42 there is a story where Jesus heals a leper:
"A leper came to HIm, begging on his knees, 'If you want to, you can cleanse me.' Deeply moved, Jesus put out Hid hand, touched him, and said, 'I want to. Be clean.' Then and there the leprosy was gone, his skin was smooth and healthy."
This story is so surprising because Jesus touches a man that was unclean. He touched him when no one else would. He did not have to touch the man to heal him. There are plenty of occasions where Jesus heals people without touching them, but Jesus knew that this man needed more than to be healed. He needed to be cared for, and that is what Jesus does for us as well.
Nothing is TOO SHAMEFUL to make Jesus LOOK AWAY.
This truth is so important, because students have to know that nothing is too shameful to come to God with. His love covers all our sins and His grace gives us second and third and one hundred and third chances when we do not deserve them.
Romans 8:38-39:
"Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not event he worst sins listed in Scripture."
We learn that shame and guilt that come from our sinful decisions are not from God but from people. Our sins have consequences and we must face them, but God is never going to turn His back on us, and we can never sin so badly that God says, 'That's the last time!' He will never leave us or forget us. God the Father turned His back on Jesus because of our sin, so that we could know Him personally, free from sin, guilt, fear or shame.
GUILT comes from people, GRACE comes from God.
We often come back to God and say, 'Sorry I messed up again! Will you forgive me again this time?' And while this may not seem like a big deal, it is a drastic theological error. The Bible tells us that God separates us from our sins as far as East is from West and that He is powerful enough to be all-knowing, and yet chooses to forgive and forget our sins. So we never have to say will forgive me AGAIN. God wipes our slate clean because of Jesus and instead we can thanks Him for his continued forgiveness as we confess our sins.
Psalm 103:11-13:
"For His unfailing love towards those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the Earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is like a father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him."
Because of God's love for us, He FORGIVES AND FORGETS our past mistakes.
While our sexual sins have consequences, we can always come back to God. He is waiting for us to come to Him for forgiveness and love. His open arms are there to wrap us up in grace and remove from us all shame and guilt.
One Last Thought:
No matter how much you've MESSED UP in the past, it is never too late to MAKE UP with God.

Parent Preview: Exposed! [week.3 technical virgin]
What a great start to our new EXPOSED! series we are having! We hope that you had a great conversation with your student after this weekend, where they learned how BIG sex is designed to be! We hope that they came home with the understanding that sex was created by God to be great and that He knows how to make it the best. Often students feel that God is trying to keep something good from them by telling us to wait until marriage for sex, but we learned that God sees our sexuality as a priceless gift and that if we try to see it from His perspective, then what He says to do about it will make perfect sense. We also hope that they begin to realize that sex is a much bigger deal than the world leads us to believe.
Students are always looking for a boundary, and line that they know that they can go all the way up to and not get in trouble. Unfortunately the Bible does not give a hard and fast line, because God knows that sex is bigger than we think. This makes the conversation more difficult at times, but also more relevant and true for our lives. Many churches have stressed that we shouldn't have sex until we are married, which is good, but they regretfully do not discuss the things that are most commonly happening in student sexual lives. Things that they do not view as sex, but are sexual in nature. This has lead to a lot of confusion in the lives of teens, especially those in church.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT TWICE:
If you have a 6th grade or older student, you MUST be asking them questions about masturbation and pornography for their protection because that is where the pressure is, not just "sex."
When you ask you student about "sex" they think about just that, "sex" so if they have not had sex, they say "no" but they still may have had oral sex, manual sex, masturbated or looked at pornography. It is important for you conversations with you student to be specific so that they are best prepared to deal with the pressure they are receiving from their friends at school.
Here are the main points and verses that we will be discussing this weekend (4.13), so that you can be prepared ahead of time to have meaningful conversations with your student about what they are learning. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can assist you with to help you connect and discuss this topic with your student.

week.3 - technical virgin
This week we will be discussing what God has to say about all those things that kids face pressure to do that come 'before' sex. We will be splitting up into two groups for Junior High this weekend, boys and girls. This will allow us to better cater the conversation to the specific needs of each gender. That said both groups will be hearing about what the Bible has to say about some topics that are not usually discussed in church, but are very prevalent in the lives of Junior High and High School students, christian or otherwise.
Topics like: oral sex, masturbation, pornography, self image, friends with benefits, homosexuality and modesty.
They Bible tells us clearly that we are designed for sexual enjoyment and fulfillment, but in order to have the best experience we have to follow God's guidelines.
"You say, 'I am allowed to do anything'—but not everything is good for you. And even though 'I am allowed to do anything,' I must not become a slave to anything. You say, 'Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.' But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies."
1 Corinthians 6:12-13
God’s standard is not VIRGINITY, it’s PURITY.
The Bible tells us not to just limit ourself to virginity. Virginity is not the goal, it is not God's best. Virginity simply means that sexual intercourse has not occurred. This become problematic for students because they begin to assume that anything other than sexual intercourse is fine, and will not have any problematic consequences, physical or emotional.
Because God wants your student to have great sex, He wants to protect them from the things that can keep them from having it (i.e: emotional baggage, addiction & STDs) The truth is that you can be a virgin and still not be pure (be a "technical virgin" but be a avid porn watcher or have had oral sex), and you can not be a virgin and still be pure (be a victim of sexual abuse or rape, and yet still choose to not willingly participate in sexual activity until your wedding night).
"And then he added, 'It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.'"
Mark 7:20-22
The fact that we look for a BOUNDARY, says a lot about OUR HEARTS.
So what counts when it comes to sex? Our HEARTS! Our desire for a boundary communicates that we are looking to get away with as much as possible, rather than being focused on saving as much as possible for our future spouse. Immorality is defined and taking what is not yours, so sexual immorality is taking someone's sexuality that doesn't belong to you. For example: Pornography is looking at someone else's wife or husband so you are stealing their sexuality from them. Lust is stealing someone else's purity by imagining them in a sexual way. Oral sex is stealing an experience from your future husband or wife and stealing their ability to feel safe and comparison free in your future marriage.
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”
1 Corinthians 6: 18-20
The Bible says we need to run away from sexual immorality. What are some things in your life that you need to distance yourself from:
This time will be for each gender group to discuss those areas of sexual immorality that are most difficult for them. The Bible says to run away from anything that causes us to sin sexual and the question we want to get the students to ask themselves is, "How serious am I about putting God first in my life, and how does that play out in my commitment to remain as sexually pure as possible?" We want them to be willing to avoid sexual sin, even if it makes them look dumb, feel awkward, loose a boyfriend or a girlfriend or even mean making some real sacrificial changes in their life so that they can honor God and really respect their future spouse and set themselves up for a joyful, fulfilling and exciting sexual connection in marriage.
The more you save, the more you can give to your future spouse. Pay now, Play later!

week.2 - ...so it's kind of a big deal
Often times our perspective on certain things becomes warped or confused because we find ourselves being influenced by so many things, and they all seem to say different things and drive us in different directions. The magazines we read, the stores we shop at, our friends at school, the music we listen and almost everything else around us tries to influence us to think about sex in one way or another.
"Just loose 10 pounds and you will be more attractive.'" "If you have this shirt you will be more sexy." "The opposite sex will want you if you are this way or that way," they all try to tell us. However, God has a lot to say about sex in the Bible, because, well... it was HIS IDEA! God was the one who created it! And He says that it is good. Not just good, but if used in the way He designed it, He says it is even Worship! Sex is wonderfully mysterious, amazing and yet can be totally confusing, frustrating and leave us feeling empty if it is abused. Because our culture is so saturated with sexual images and ideas, the mystery of sex is cheapened and destroyed so:
The world around us says, “Sex is NO BIG DEAL!”
BUT
God tells us, “Sex is a PRICELESS GIFT!”
We are all born sexual, from the moment we enter life on this planet, we are determined by our sexuality. "It's a girl!" So our sexuality is not something to be ashamed of or shy away from, but is something to celebrate, understand and embrace.
Ezekiel 18:25, 27:
"'Do I hear you saying, 'That's not fair! God's not fair!'? 'Listen, Israel. I'm not fair? You're the ones who aren't fair! Look around you, don't you see what's happening? Do you see how you are treating people?'"
In this passage, God is asking us to look at our world, at our actions and at our decisions from His perspective. Instead of just whining and complaining that we don't like what He tells us, which is what we usually do, He wants us to think about WHY He might have told us how and why to wait for sex. As we look at sex from God's perspective, we can see why we might want to put up some boundaries and limits about how it is to be used. Think about it, everything that is cool, everything that we look forward to, those milestones in life, come will higher risk and add more limits to our life. You get your driver's license, so you get to drive, but you have to obey the speed limit and wear a seatbelt. You move out, and you get to set your own social schedule, but you have to get a job to financially support that social life. You want to go to Big Stuf summer camp, but you have to remember to put on your own sunscreen instead of depending on your mommy, otherwise you look like a pomegranate after only the first 3 days in Florida. Everything good in life comes with higher risk and higher reward, and sex is no different. If we truly want to enjoy sex the way God designed us to, we need to listen to His insight about how it is to be used, because those "limits" are there for our protection because He loves us. The reality is, if we begin to look at sex from God's perspective, everything that He says about it, will make total sense.
If we SEE as God sees, we will DO as God says.

Students have to understand both the beautiful, incredible experience that God desires us to have when it comes to sex, and the consequences that come from misusing something so powerful, in order to understand the motivation to save sex for a committed marriage relationship.

These verses describes to boundless reach of love and paints us a picture of what love looks like in a relationship. Love is not described as a feeling or an emotion, but as adjectives and verbs within the contexts of relationship. Love define what we do, not how we feel, and sex is God's idea of the perfect picture of LOVE. It is the physical union that represents the connection between two people that can only be achieved through a healthy, God-driven marriage. It represents, trust, vulnerability, passion, sacrifice, patience and joy.
Sex WITHIN MARRIAGE is the most complete picture of LOVE there is.

Often times our perspective on certain things becomes warped or confused because we find ourselves being influenced by so many things, and they all seem to say different things and drive us in different directions. Parent Preview: Exposed! [week.1 crush,crush,crush]
This weekend we start our new series on sexual purity and dating called EXPOSED! In this series we want your students to learn about God's great plan for sex in their lives and how they can make good choices now, about when and who to date, setting boundaries and keeping promises, that will benefit them in the future and lead to a godly, satisfying and intimate marriage. We will expose the lies that the world is telling your students about love and sex, and replace them with the truth from God's word.
Here are the main points and verses that we will be discussing this weekend (3.31), so that you can be prepared ahead of time to have meaningful conversations with your student about what they are learning. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can assist you with to help you connect and discuss this topic with your student.
EXPOSED! [the naked truth about sex and dating]
week.1 - crush, crush, crush
Dating brings up a lot of questions in the minds of students. When can I start? Who should I go out with? What am I supposed to do? Why even date in the first place? Does God say anythign about dating?
All of these are good questions to ask, but unfortunately the Bible says absolutely nothing about dating. Dating wasn't around in Biblical times so instead of trying to cram verses about marriage to fit into dating, we will take a look at the whole picture of God's view on love, relationships and gender to determine what the appropriate move on dating should be. But know that anything you ever hear about the "Bible's position on dating," is an opinion. (Even if Joshua Harris says otherwise.)
Genesis 2:28-25:
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”
19 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one.
20 He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him.
21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening.
22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.
23 “At last!” the man exclaimed.
“This one is bone from my bone,
and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’”
24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
25 Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.
This passages shows us that women and man are created as equals and are designed to belong together. The woman is strong where the man is weak and vice versa. While Adam looked for a "helper" among the animals that God created, it was obvious that none of them would do, so God decided to create again, someone just like Adam, not just a "helper," but a "companion,"an "equal." Women is the only thing God created to make a perfect creation better.

Proverbs 4:23:
23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Our decisions determine our direction, which will ALWAYS lead us to a destination. So often, we arrive at a destination and wonder how we got there. As we think about dating this verse has so many implications. If we know we want to arrive at a certain destination, or at least avoid other destinations, then we need to make decisions about our direction ahead of time. Our hearts are going to decide who we date and eventually who we marry, so how are the choices that we make now, setting us up for success in our marriage one day in the future? We need to take the time to make sure that we have a goal in mind, and that our present actions are moving up towards achieving that goal. So we have to ask the questions, in dating, "What am I aiming for?"
In dating, you GET what you AIM for.
Matthew 7:6:
6 "Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you."
This verse sets the standard for dating other Christians, and even then, waiting to date until you know what you are looking for in a mate. The Bible tells us that our bodies are the temple of the holy spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) so that makes us holy, and we need to protect that holiness, but making sure that the people that we date are on our same playing field, emotionally, relationally, and most importantly, spiritually.

GUYS:
The most MANLY thing you can do is RESPECT women.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7:
3 God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. 4 Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor, 5 not in lustful passion like those who do not know God and His ways. 6 Never harm or cheat a Christian brother in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. 7 God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives."
Dating can be a great experience that helps us become more selfless, learn to get along with people of the opposite sex, and help us discover what qualities we are looking for in a person to marry. However, statistics show that the earlier that you start dating the more likely you are to cross a boundary and sacrifice your purity. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 tells us that if we hook up with a person that is not our spouse, we are violating not only our own marriage, but someone else's as well. So, sometimes the best choice we can make to ensure our purity is to wait to date exclusively, until we are old enough to know what it means to really be in a relationship that has a goal of preparing for marriage.

MONDAY: Movie and Jordan Creek Century 20 Theaters
Meet at the DEW ZONE at Jordan Creek Town Center and we will have lunch in the food court and then see Penelope (PG). They need about $12 for movie ticket and lunch. Pick up will be at 3:00pm.
TUESDAY: Bowling at Warrior Lanes
Meet at Warrior Lanes (Across Hickman Road from Church) at 12:00 noon to have some fun bowling! Have them bring $10 for bowling, shoe rental, or more for the arcade and snacks. Pick up is at 2:00pm at Warrior Lanes.
WEDNESDAY: Sports Day at Sports Plex West
Meet at Sports Plex West (890 SE Olson Drive, just west of Alice's Road between Hickman and University) at 11:00am and we will have 2 hours of sports (Dodgeball, Basketball, Indoor Soccer and Rock Climbing Wall). This event is FREE!! So have your student invite a bunch of friends! Every student must have a signed parent permission slip, which you can download from the Sports Plex West website. Even though this event is free, if any student doesn't have a signed permission slip, they cannot participate. Sorry, no exceptions.
THURSDAY: Girl's Only Breakfast
Meet at Point of Grace at 9:30a for a free Breakfast in the Hub! Have your daughter bring her friends for they great time of food and community! Sorry guys, girls only!
FRIDAY: XBOX Tournament, DDR, Guitar Hero, Games and Pizza Lunch
Finish out the week hanging out in the Student Zone at Point of Grace from 11:00am to 2:00pm. There will be prized for the winners and a pizza lunch. Bring $3 if your student wants to eat pizza.
